Health and Safety

Five steps to risk assessment .
1. Identify the hazards
2. Decide who might be harmed and how
3. Evaluate the risks and decide on precaution
4. Record your findings and implement them
5. Review your assessment and update if necessary

I should have atleast basic knowledge (or anyone who want to work in dark room or with any chemicals) about "Health and Safety" so I would not harm myself (or kill).

The first thing using chemicals I should need to check if there is any COSHH (Control os Substances Hazardous to Health) label(s).
Like theese:

If by any chance happened accident we should follow instruction what says on bottle, like wash damaged place with running cold water etc, when going to hospital we should take bottle with us so we could give to doctors and they can recognise how to treat damage.

There is few basic rules for darkroom:

·      Limit access to the darkroom. Only approved persons should be allowed to
       work in the room.
·      Practice good housekeeping. Keep the work area clean and uncluttered to
prevent tripping over hazardous chemical bottles.
·      Separate the wet and dry areas.
·      Always segregate chemicals. (Don’t store acids near reducer).
·      Use the least toxic chemicals available. Avoid cyanides, heavy metals and
developers containing pyrocatechol or pyrogallol when possible.
·      Do not store chemicals on the floor.
·      Do not eat, drink or smoke in the darkroom.
·      The darkroom should be well ventilated.
·      Wear appropriate protective equipment whenever possible, such as gloves and
       goggles.
·      Always wash hands with soap and warm water after working with chemicals.
·      Know how to use emergency equipment prior to an actual emergency.
·      Always Add Acid to water, never water to acid. (Remember ‘AAA’)
·      Keep a spill kit in the darkroom.
·      Do not use paper towels or saw dust to clean up acid spills as this may cause a
       fire.
·      Pregnant women should not be exposed to powdered developer.
·      Store all chemicals in locations that will minimize the chance of breakage and
       splashing.
·      Label all containers.
·      Keep all containers and trays closed or covered when not in use to prevent the
       release of toxic gases.
·      Do not wash any chemicals down the sink (exceptions noted below).
• All spent
chemicals should be placed into an appropriate waste container. (A container the
same as the one the chemical was originally shipped in is best).

Anyone should have basic knowledge about how to organise work space, how to report problems, organise desk space to work comfortably, adopting good posture, how to adjusting the screen and lightining to avoid reflections and glare.

One of things anyone should know about working anywhere is what the risk assesments are and how report problems.

WHICH SIDE WOULD YOU CHOOSE? Montage

My plan for montage:
* Research of different montages
* Theme of montage
* Find all the photos for montage

After doing my research I came up with an idea that I should create a montage about how nature is destroyed with buildings, factory's etc. About how there is more rubbish than landscapes and nature.
My plan was to find a photograph with a tree in the center (photo1). Then I tried to find a photo with buildings or a factory,  I thought that the one I chose (photo2) fits perfectly, especially because of the smoke.
Then its time for fun - Photoshop (I used Photoshop CS5).
First I opened photo 1. Then I opened photo 2 and cropped it. After cropping photo 2 I put it on photo 1. To give it a better look, not just 2 photos mixed together, I used the Eraser Tool on photo2. As well so the left side would blend better, trough Layers I used Multiply option.  I think the result worked well.
To give more life to the nature side of the photo, I found a photo of a bird. Then using the Magnetic Lasso Tool I cropped it out. Another option is to use quick mask with the brush on 100% opacity. Using the shortcut command+c I copied and pasted 3 more birds. Using Edit-Transform-Scale I changed the size of the birds.
To give more spirit for left (natural) side of the photo I research some photos of animals, and I thought that this rabbit was perfect for my montage. I used the Magic Wand Tool to crop it out from original photo, than put in my montage. I chose Hard Light option trough Layers and then blend it together with Eraser Tool so would look like rabbit is hiding in grass.
To show more about my main idea about how people are leaving rubbish everywhere I chose a photo with plastic bottles. I used Lasso Tool to crop them out, then used again Hard Light option trough Layers so it would blend together.
The last step was text, I came up with " What side would you choose?" (Well actually I put What side you would choose but my mate Aaron said i should swop would&you, as you have notice my English is not the best :) I applied text just using Horizontal Type Tool.
And wollaah - its done!

SCANS

 3D
I used flower and scanner. All I did scanning this flower is left the lid open and put a white paper page on flower.

 Serrano photography.
This photo is done ages ago when we did Serrano type photography. I found it quit interesting how u can produce a photography just from scanning negative. I taped negative with "magic scotch" tape. As you can see the result is bit unlined. But practise makes it better, right? :)
